Application of Activated Carbon Obtained from Spent Coffee Ground Wastes to Effective Terbium Recovery from Liquid Solutions

A process aimed at the recovery of terbium from liquid solutions using activated carbon (AC) derived spent coffee grounds (SCG) was assessed. AC obtained hydro-alcoholic treatment SCG, followed by physical activation as-obtained product. The exhibited both microporous and mesoporous structures, which were shown corresponding nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. In addition, a certain graphitic character found in micro-Raman measurements. By use this AC, adsorption investigated, influence solution pH, temperature, adsorbent amount on uptake tested. kinetic studies also evaluated. best fit for type-1 Langmuir isotherm pseudo-second-order kinetics model. Thermodynamic revealed that is an endothermic spontaneous process. Terbium desorption acidic investigated. This work demonstrated it possible to recover valuable metal present AC.
